Bangkok Siem Reap - Bangkok Phnom Penh

Bangkok Siem Reap, Bangkok Phnom Penh

Bangkok to Siem Reap and Phnom Penh

is a routing many travelers take, because its cheap and fast. The best actually is to start at Suvarnabhumi Airport, they have a bus to Aranyaphratet at 7am and at the weekend additionally in the afternoon. It costs less than $ 10,-, the bus is excellent and since it starts at the airport it passes the Bangkok traffic mess. Use the airport rail link to come to the airport.

After its a streight run, when arriving at the border ignore the people who come to the bus and try to manovre you to their office and pretending to handle the border papers, noone need them since all is streightforward. It only needs to go to the Cambodian immigration counter behind the the big entrance door and after to the other immigration where thy issue the actual visa for $ 20,-.

The Thai and Cambodian border people are friendly and the Cambodians wont cheat at the border as they do when entering the country at Koh Kong where they ask around $ 40,- for the visa which costs usually $ 20,- but just needs to be stubborn and never pay more.

When leaving the passport control the best is to go together with one or two other and take a taxi, thats relativly cheap when more than one and much faster than the bus. It also allows to stop when needed, maybe for a great shot. Take the seatbelt since the behaviour of the people is hairraising and with total carelessness. Its even worst than in Thailand and Thai road travel is already real breathtaking. As an example, at Phuket Island they have around 200.000 accidents every year. this is a grotesk number and most of the people actually doing this accidents are motorbike driver.

The next part for Bangkok Phnom Penh is also by bus or with the ship on the Tonle Sap River which starts near Angkor and ends at Phnom Penh at Sisowath Quay. The journey with the bus is more interesting since there is nothing to see on the river and it costs much more. There are also daily flights between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh.
